Events

More than just a company that produces theatre, Glasswater wants to foster the next generation of artists. We offer several ongoing events that focus on emerging artists. If you’d like to read about these events each month, use the sidebar to sign up for our mailing list (we promise never to share your information with anyone). To find out more about each event, read on.

Potluck Playread Series

The potluck playread series is designed to offer a playwright the opportunity for a first or second read of a new work. A bi-monthly series, each playread includes some delicious food, a reading of the play, and then a time of discussion and feedback where the participants are able to engage with the playwright and their work. For 2013/2014 season, all playreads took place at the Fringe Creation Lab (720 Bathurst St) in the Neville Austin Studio. All playreads start at 7:00pm.

If you would like to submit a play for consideration, please send an email to info@glasswater.ca. Please write a description of your piece and include the script attached as a PDF (no Word documents, please). Due to volume, we cannot promise to program your play in the series immediately, but we do review every submission received.

Past playwrights:
Shannon Blake (Devotion); Adam Collier (Political Murder); Laura Harris (Red/Rouge); lisa li (visitors); Kathleen McDonnell (Beautiful Savage); Thomas McKechnie (Portraits of His Father); Jessica Moss (Next To Him); Step Taylor (Model Wanted); Jenna Turk (Daily Bread); Erin Vandenberg (SaltA Trick with the Light).

If you have questions about the playreads, please contact producer Luke LaRocque at luke@glasswater.ca.

The Wedge

The Wedge is a group of female theatre directors and creators who meet to discuss and connect on their experiences as emerging artists in the Toronto theatre community. The Wedge aims to be a place where emerging female directors and creators can network and gain insight into their profession from both established artists and their peers.

If you are interested in being involved in the planning of The Wedge or want more information on the next event, please contact Mairin Smit at mairin@glasswater.ca.
